Welcome, My name is Joe Garvin.....

I have been teaching Elementary Physical Education and Developmental Adaptive Physical Education at Bluff View Elementary since fall 1996. I want students to learn skills, increase their fitness level, understand the benefits of lifetime activity, and be a respectful competitor. My ultimate goal is that students have made the transition from the classroom to other environments and they have incorporated these skills.

Students participate in a wide variety of units to develop their motor skills so that they may find an interest that they may choose to participate in on a regular basis. Physical education emphasizes lifetime fitness, and I want students to be excited about exercise. I want students to incorporate exercise, and apply healthy behavior into their daily routines.

Also, I am the Developmental Adaptive Physical Education Instructor in my building. Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) is a special education service that provides educational support for students with disabilities who cannot safely or successfully participate in the general physical education program. Students ages 3-21 who have a substantial delay or disorder in gross-motor development and who meet Minnesota State Developmental Adapted Physical Education criteria may receive this service.
